Twitter To Launch in Germany - Twitter is spreading its wings further across Europe its over-worked CEO announced Sunday at the DLD Conference here.
Jack Dorsey, who doubles up as the CEO of Square as well, said the company was looking to build a German team. He didn’t give any details on the number of people he wanted to hire, simply that he was looking to for hires.
The company has offices in Ireland and the U.K.
Twitter has some history with Germany, Twitter’s first programmer, Florian Weber, was based in Hamburg. Mr. Weber now works for Berlin start up Amen.
In what are now called “fire-side chats”, Mr. Dorsey also said that Twitter was not really a social network at all.
“We definitely see social as just one part of what people do on Twitter,” Mr. Dorsey said. “We think of it as an information utility and a communications network.”
Twitter also beats players like Google+ and Facebook by being more accessible, Mr. Dorsey said. You don’t have to tweet to get value out of Twitter, he argued.
