Humphries named Aust of the Year in UK  - Barry Humphries made the most of picking up the Australian of the year award in the UK by poking fun at Julia Gillard, Kevin Rudd and Rupert Murdoch


'It is about time, really,' he said with the medal around his neck.

'It really is a paper weight, it is a strain on the neck really.'

The comedic performer was in terrific form at a gala dinner in London, using the occasion to poke fun at Prime Minister Julia Gillard, visiting Foreign Minister Kevin Rudd and media magnate Rupert Murdoch.

Humphries, 77, opened his acceptance speech by quoting Mr Murdoch's comments in front of a British parliamentary committee on phone hacking last year.

'This is the most humble day of my life,' he said.
