Texas Rangers Have a Window to Reach World Series Glory
By Ray Monell in sport yahoo
The Texas Rangers held on to beat the Detroit Tigers in Game 1 of the 2011 ALCS at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington Saturday night, 3-2, putting them three wins away from their second World Series trip in as many seasons.
Their chances of repeating as American League champions seems safe at the moment. And despite the eventual NL pennant winner having home field advantage in the Fall Classic—be it the St. Louis Cardinals or Milwaukee Brewers—Texas would be favored in the next round.
The New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox are on vacation, so Texas is the last favorite left in the American League portion of the 2011 postseason. The Philadelphia Phillies got eliminated by St. Louis in a decisive Game 5 on Friday, so they, too, will be watching the postseason on TV.
Detroit, as it taught everyone earlier this week expecting the Yankees to win Game 5 in the Bronx with little difficulty, should not be counted out. But the Rangers have been knocking on the door for two years now.
This is their chance, their window to bring the franchise its first World Series title.
